The Tramuntana Microclimate
Soller does not have the same weather as Palma. The valley is ringed by mountains over 1,000 metres, such as Puig Major (1,445 m), which hold back clouds and make it rainier and a little cooler than the capital, especially in winter.
- Sea breeze: in the Port it usually cools down in the afternoon in summer.
- Autumn storms: September and October have the most rainy days and can bring strong storms and a rough sea.
- Port versus town: near the sea nights are milder; inland in the valley and in the mountains they are cooler.
Sea Temperature
The warmest sea is in August (about 26 °C) and the coldest in February (about 14 °C), according to WeatherSpark. For comfortable swimming count on June to October: 22 to 26 °C from June to September, and still about 22 °C in October.
The day's sea state (swell, wind) is in the AEMET beach forecast.
What to Pack by Season
- Summer (June to September): light clothes, a hat, sunscreen, water shoes and a thin layer for the evening.
- Spring and autumn: layers, a light rain jacket and shoes with good grip for the mountains.
- Winter: a fleece or jacket and an umbrella; average lows fall to around 5 °C.
- All year: comfortable shoes, as the town's streets are stone and hilly.
Can You Visit in Winter?
Yes. From December to February highs are around 14 to 16 °C with about 5 rainy days a month. It is not beach weather, but it suits walks, the market, citrus fruit and fewer crowds. Before you travel, check schedules and any closures in the Soller train guide.
